Game 48: Kladno 1-Litomerice 4 as WSM standings tighten: @68Jagr–0 points in homecoming for the King

This image, of Jaromir Jagr sitting on a throne of hockey sticks has been making the rounds in the Czech Republic

Kladno Welcomed the King of Hockey at first home game

Kladno hopes Jagr is the missing piece to the puzzle. The King has four points in three games, even though the team is 1-2 in those games. Four games remain in the regular season for third-place Kladno, which hopes to finish no worse than fourth and earn home ice in the first round of the playoffs.
Jagr entered the ice to much excitement before the game. The home team left disappointed dropping a 1:4 decision at home to Litomerice.  A tight race sees the Knights unlikely to finish better than third, holding only a three-point advantage, or a regulation win edge over the current sixth place team.

Kladno plays two this week with playoff implications

The Knights (86 points) visit fifth-place Slavia (83 points) on Wednesday, Feb. 14. A regulation win by Slavia would push them ahead of the Knights

The Knights host Havirov, which starts the week with 76 points, on Saturday, Feb. 17.  This game would be the final chance for Havirov to save their fading playoff hopes, depending on the outcome of Wednesday’s games.

The battle for third place now sees one of two teams tied with 86 points but Kladno getting the nod due to more wins. Two other teams are hopeful with 83 points.

Jagr spoke after the game, some of which is in transcript form and can be translated from Czech.

After the game it was Kladno congratulating Litomerice

A message for our Czech readers.

The following Flames Bloggers should have some Jagr content this season:

@Zdenek_Janda   Czech reporter who covers the NHL and reports on other news for the people of the Czech Republic, sometimes from the USA.

@Jsmidcro    Jan Smid was a US-based Czech reporter who collaborated on “Jagr”, an autobiography in the late 90’s detailing Jagr’s early life and career in the NHL. Smid now covers international affairs but has remained friends with Jagr through the years. A good follow for his international news. The book is till available on Amazon and ebay, tells the early story of Jagr’s life and career through 1996. Comes with a nice replica autograph inside so don’t be fooled by claims that the book is hand-signed by Jagr unless there’s a second, smaller signature somewhere.

Since then, they convene at games in Western Canada and make a road trip or two every year, playing street hockey with locals, posing for hundreds of pictures, and having a good time with fans while honoring an all-time NHL legend.
