GAME 60: Barkov 2 goals in return in Florida 3-2 win over Arizona, Jagr assist for point 1846

SUNRISE–The Florida Panthers closed a 3-2-1 homestand with a 3-2 victory over Arizona Thursday night at BB&T Center. Aleksander Barkov returned to action after missing six games and scored two goals including the game winner.

Barkov’s second goal came on a pass to the slot from behind the net by Jaromir Jagr. Barkov now has 18 goals, tied for third best on Florida with Vincent Trocheck. Jagr (20) and Reilly Smith (19) are Florida’s top goal producers through 60 games.

The assist was Jagr’s team-leading 44th point of the season and the 1846th point of his career as he moved another step closer to matching Gordie Howe’s third all-time best scoring total of 1850 point. With the point Jagr also became the oldest NHL player to score 44 points in a season.

Shane Doan and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for Arizona. After falling behind 3-1 the Coyotes scored a third period goal and pressed for the equalizer but were unable to push the game into overtime.  Video of goals of the game from nhl.com and a box score can be viewed here:

During the recent 10 game segment the Panthers finished 5-3-2 for 12 of their season total of 77 points. Jagr played all 10 games  and recorded  5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points which matched his season best segment recorded in the first 10 games.

JAGRometer.com is not a big fan of what ifs as the actual numbers Jagr has achieved are impressive enough. ESPN wondered out loud about the effect of work stoppages and the KHL had on Jagr’s career goal totals. It’s a moot discussion if Jagr had suffered a career-ending injury in the NHL had he not gone to play in Russia.  http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/114859/what-if-could-jagr-have-matched-gretzky-in-goal-scoring
