Florida plays Tampa Bay for Atlantic Division lead Saturday and latest Jagr news

TAMPA BAY–The Florida Panthers  (41-24-9-91) and Tampa Bay Lightning (43-26-5-91)  meet Saturday night in Tampa with both teams aiming to finish the evening in first place. Early in the season both teams struggled. Florida went on a 12-game winning streak to vault into first place. A series of injuries cooled their momentum but as the games have taken on magnified meaning Florida has kept themselves within striking distance of the Atlantic Division crown.

The Lightning limped through the first half of the season but have overcome that rough start to claim their place at the top of the division by the technicality  of most regulation and overtime wins even though both teams have 91 points through 74 games after Tampa Bay defeated the New York Islanders Friday night in Amalie Arena, site for tonight’s game with Florida.

With the pressure on in Boston Thursday night the Panthers won their first game in Beantown since 2011 with their top scorers all figuring in on the scoring and goalie Roberto Luongo stopped 34 of 35 shots in playing his best game in months. Reilly Smith and Vincent Trocheck matched Jaromir Jagr’s team leading 24 goals in that game and with a goal and an assist Jussi Jokinen finished the game matching Jagr’s team-leading 56 points.  The Panthers top line ended their nearly three-game scoring slump in the last minute of the game with an empty net goal by Jonathon Huberdeau that was set up by Jaromir Jagr and Aleksander Barkov.

We stay away from predictions here at JAGRoemeter.com and hope tonight’s game results in a Florida victory with the legend doing his part to key the victory. Following tonight’s game the Panther play three games against Toronto Tuesday, New Jersey Wednesday and Montreal Saturday at BB&T Center. Tickets for these games available at panthers.nhl.com. Expanded Atlantic Division Standings

It’s been well-established that Jaromir Jagr is not your average hockey player. In this article he explains why he recently said he wants to play until he’s at least 60.
During the Panthers visit to Madison Square Garden earlier this week the New York Rangers paid tribute to Jagr, their former captain, who in 2004 keyed a turn in fortune for that franchise which continues to this day.
