SUNRISE–The Florida Panthers get back on the horse tonight after dropping a 5-4 decision to the New York Islanders in the first game of a best-of-seven series Thursday night at BB&T Center.
There was even some rough stuff in the high scoring game…
The Legend was denied on this play late in the game.
The Panthers outshot the Islanders 46-26 as Thomas Greiss outperformed Roberto Luongo in goal. The Panthers top line of Aleksander Barkov, Jonathon Huberdeau and Jaromir Jagr had 13 shots but could not get one to go into the next. It was a tough game for Jagr. He damaged his six tooth of the season when he was slammed into the boards behind the net in the first period. Jagr also seemed to be experiencing skate problems today. He did get five shots including one backhand deflection from the edge of the crease that was stopped by Greiss with 31 seconds remaining.
The Panthers did get two goals from Reilly Smith and single tallies by Jussi Jokinen and Teddy Purcell. Islanders goals were scored by Brock Nelson, Frans Neilsen, John Tavares, Kyle Okposo and Ryan Strome. Extended coverage including highlights available at NHL.com.
