(LOS ANGELES) — The 2017-18 debut of Jaromir Jagr is expect tonight when the Calgary Flames play at Los Angeles. Flames coach Glen Gulutzan confirmed a late morning report from Sportsnet that Jagr will play against the Kings. The Czech legend is the NHL’s second all-time leading scorer with 765 goals, 1149 assists and 1914 points in 1710 games, all tops among active players and missed Calgary’s first three games after being signed at the end of training camp.
Jagr is the most famous Czech player to play for Calgary. Before Jagr, a few Czechs have also left their mark on Calgary. Learn about them by following the link and translating this Czech article to your language.
The Calgary Flames are Jagr’s new team, and for many non-Calgarians, an unknown team to many hockey fans. The Calgary Herald report for Tuesday highlighted puck-handling goalie Mike Smith, Jagr and winger Curtis Lazar.
Lazar may be the odd man out tonight.
Calgary’s next three games
Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 Flames at Los Angeles Kings 10:30 ET, 8:30 MT, 7:30 PT
The Flames play a second game in three days in Southern California, this time vs. Los Angeles. Calgary opened the two-game California roadie with a 2-0 win over Anaheim, ending a losing streak that spanned more than a decade in that facility. The team confirmed reports that Jaromir Jagr will play his first game with the team tonight.
Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 Ottawa Senators at Flames, 9 ET, 7 MT,
Sandwiched between some west coast games is a Flames home game vs. Ottawa at the Saddledome. Some speculated Jagr’s debut would be this home game against the Senators but that idea goes awash if Jagr plays Wednesday night.
Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 Flames at Vancouver Cancucks 10 ET, 8 MT, 7 PT
A quick trip west following Friday’s game find the Flames playing in British Columbia. This game completes a stretch of four games in six days. After that the Flames will have no games for the next four days.
@EricFrancis of the Calgary Herald finds Jagr’s personality a refreshing change from the dull, close to the vest athletes in sports these days. Here’s his article today.

The following Flames Bloggers should have some Jagr content this season:
@Zdenek_Janda Czech reporter who covers the NHL and reports on other news for the people of the Czech Republic, sometimes from the USA.
@Jsmidcro Jan Smid was a US-based Czech reporter who collaborated on “Jagr”, an autobiography in the late 90’s detailing Jagr’s early life and career in the NHL. Smid now covers international affairs but has remained friends with Jagr through the years. A good follow for his international news. The book is till available on Amazon and ebay, tells the early story of Jagr’s life and career through 1996. Comes with a nice replica autograph inside so don’t be fooled by claims that the book is hand-signed by Jagr unless there’s a second, smaller signature somewhere.

TRAVELLING JAGRS links
@68isgr8 is the twitter for The Traveling Jagrs. Clad in different Jagr jerseys and hair styles from 68’s career, they gained league-wide recognition when they caught Jagr’s attention during a pre-game skate of a Dallas Stars game in Canada during the 2012-2013 season. Since then, they convene at games in Western Canada and make a road trip or two every year, playing street hockey with locals, posing for hundreds of pictures, and having a good time with fans while honoring an all-time NHL legend. This is the official site for the group but is the personal twitter for Dallas Stars Jagr, aka Trevor Freeman
