SUNRISE–The Florida opened their homestand with a special 4-1 victory over Colorado Tuesday night at BB&T Center. Vincent Trocheck scored two power play goals, while Reilly Smith added one with the man-advantage. Brian Campbell scored a shorthanded goal to ice the game. Roberto Luongo’s shutout bid was thwarted in the final minute on a goal by Gabriel Landeskog. Luongo stopped 31 of 32 shots in posting the victory.
Penalties by Florida limited Jaromir Jagr’s playing time in the first period. When he took a six-second shift late in the period He left the bench and missed the rest of the game with what Florida Panthers team officials described as the cryptic “lower body injury.” George Richards of the Miami Herald tweeted the problem may be a hamstring. One of hockey’s most durable players, jagr has had pain in his upper leg muscles before in his 25-year professional career, most memorably in the 1999 playoffs for the penguins. That year he returned from injury early for games 6 & 7 and posted two goals in game six and two assists in game 7 as the penguins won the final two games to take the series. Jagr’s status for the Panthers home games with Boston (Friday) and Washington (Saturday) at the BB&T center is not known pending further evaluation.. FLA is now 5-3-1 and hosts the Boston Bruins Friday night at BB&T.
