SAN JOSE–Anyone unhappy with Florida losing a lead with seconds remaining in regulation only to lose in overtime like Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Anaheim will be mortified with the manner in which San Jose easily defeated the Panthers 5-2 Thursday night. It was the first game all season the Panthers seemed outclassed. Brandon Pirri and Vincent Trocheck scored for the Panthers (5-5-3-13) to comprise a brief highlight reel for the team from Florida. Burns, Donskoi, Marleau, Valsic and Tierney scored goals for San Jose, who had another goal lost on an offside play revealed by a coaches challenge.
It will be a game that Petrovic (-5) Kulikov and Jaromir Jagr (-4 each), Jonathon Huberdeau and Nick Bjudgsted (-3 each) will try to forget in time to see if Florida can salvage one game out of their three-game, West Coast road trip. The Huberdeau-Bjugsted-Jagr trio seems confused in recent games. Perhaps San Jose coach Pete Deboer’s familiarity with his former star right wing Jagr enabled him to devise a game plan to stifle the Panthers’ impromptu top line.
There’s been no California dreaming, only California screaming on this trip to the West Coast by the Panthers. The next and final stop of the trip is a 4 pm EST Saturday afternoon start against the Kings in LA.
Our friends The Traveling Jagrs (@68isgr8 on twitter) suggest visiting Jagr’s official Facebook page. In separate posts, likely drafted on the cross country flight, Jagr shares thoughts in separate posts on support for Karel, talks about growing his hair and shares a letter from a young fan who thanks Jagr for sharing his faith and how his own beliefs have helped him ride out a recovery from long-term injuries. The posts are in Czech but on some devices the translation option kicks in and while not perfect, the function allows readers to get the gist of the messages.

Heard from a new reader to this page from the Czech Republic. He explains that the singer Jagr was paying tribute to in the sign on his facebook page is a famous Czech singer named Karel Gott, who started treatment this week for Hodgkins lymphoma. The singer has released more than 150 albums and is one of the few people in the Czech Republic on the same plateau of reverence as Jagr. A little more on a Czech legend unknown to most Americans.

On that note….
Good health and happiness to the readers of jagrometer.com.

Ray,
Karel Gott is a famous Czech singer who has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. That is who the sign is for.

Thanks Jimma. I also heard from a Czech reader. I’ve updated the post to reflect the new information. Hope you’ve had a good week (had to be better than the Panthers, I hope!).
