SUNRISE, Florida–The Anaheim Ducks were so good they should put Mighty back into their name, as they outshot the Florida Panthers 41-24 in their 3-1 Thursday night at BB&T Center.
Cam Fowler’s power play goal broke a scoreless tie at 16:39 of the second, while Andrew Cogliano scored shorthanded 14:41 of the third.
Less than 90 seconds later the Panthers broke through as Alexsander Barkov scored on the rush with a long shot from the point. Reilly Smith and Jaromir Jagr got assists on the play which started with a turnover and counterattack in the neutral zone. Florida continued to apply pressure but allowed an empty net goal by Jakob Silfverburg with 1:08 remaining to all but seal the Ducks as victors. It was a tough loss to pin on Florida goalie Roberto Luongo who kept a lot of would-be goals out of the net. The Ducks seemed big, fast and well-positioned Thursday and took both games they’ll play against the Panthers this year.
#ChasingGORDIE: With Jagr’s assist on the Barkov goal he now has 15 points in the 17 games he has played, tops on the team. The assist was career point #1817.
