SUNRISE–Looks like Florida Panthers coach Gerard Gallant is back in the laboratory and trying to jumpstart two stuggling would-be goal scorers. Brandon Pirri (three goals) was moved to the top line with Aleksander Barkov and Jaromir Jagr, while Jonathon Huberdeau (one goal) was skating with second line center Nick Bjugstad in Wednesday’s morning practice.
In off-ice moves, fan-favorite Rocco Gramati and Garrett Wilson were shipped back to the AHL as just-promoted Conner Brickely and Logan Shaw will likely be taking shifts on the Panthers third and fourth lines.
Goalie Al Montoya, injured in Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Kings, is still sore from his goal crease collision, did not practice today. His status for Friday when the Panthers host the New York Islanders is not known.
Tickets for that and all Panthers games are available at http://www.floridapanthers.com, which also offers some outstanding Black Friday specials. Out-of town fans may want to find a week with three home games and treat themselves to the $99 package which includes two tickets to three games, free parking, a couple t-shirts and day passes for an Everglades tour. It isn’t a trip to Florida unless you see an alligator!
Final note to Monday’s game: Jagr’s power play assist was his 590th career power play point, tying him with Nicklas Lidstrom for second all time.
Speaking of all-time legends…
TIL: Jaromir Jagr has played an NHL game against Guy Lafleur http://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/199101260QUE.html … #NHL #FunFact
Related to that tweet, is this one, which has a connection back to 1917!
@robvollmanNHL @mlse Jagr played Lafleur who played Horton who played with Broda who played Joliat who played Benedict, who started in 1917
The fast-skating LaFleur retired from/was forced out by the Montreal Canadiens, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame three years following his retirement, then resumed his career with the New York Rangers for a season and then the Quebec Nordiques for two final seasons. His post hockey life includes work as the operator of a VIP helicopter service near Montreal, according to his Wikepedia biography:

@68isgr8 is the twitter for The Traveling Jagrs. Clad in different Jagr jerseys and hair styles from 68’s career, they gained league-wide recognition when they caught Jagr’s attention during a pre-game skate of a Dallas Stars game in Canada during the 2012-2013 season. Since then, they convene at games in Western Canada and make a road trip or two every year, playing street hockey with locals, posing for hundreds of pictures, and having a good time with fans while honoring an all-time NHL legend.
