SUNRISE–No third period heroics for the Florida Panthers as the Los Angeles Kings got a late period goal late in the second by Alec Martinez and an insurance goal in the third period by Marion Gaborik to claim a 3-1 victory over the Panthers Monday night at BB&T Center.
After being severely outshot by a 17-4 margin in the first period the Panthers tied the game on Alexander Barkov’s sixth goal of the season. Jaromir Jagr and Jonathon Huberdeau grabbed assists on the play. For Jagr it was his ninth assist of the season, 1089 career assist, and career point 1819, as the team scoring leader raised his season totals to 8 goals, 9 assists for 17 points in 19 games he’s played. Huberdeau’s assist was his 11th of the season. Barkov has now scored three goals since returning from missing 10 games with a broken hand.
Panthers goalie Al Montoya left the game in the first period after a collision in the goal crease left him woozy. Roberto Luongo finished the game in net.
The Panthers (8-9-4-20) are idle until Friday when they host the New York Islanders to close out a five game homestand that has seen them go 1-2-1 and lose ground in the Atlantic Division. Tickets for that game and others, as well as some outstanding “Black Friday” shopping specials available at http://www.floridapanthers.com.
