SUNRISE–The Florida Panthers won’t play until Jan. 2, 2016 when they host the New York Rangers at BB&T Center. Holding a one-point lead over the Montreal Canadiens and a two-point lead over Boston, the Panthers could still be in first place when they resume action Saturday pending results of the New Year’s Day Winter Classic involving Montreal and Boston at Gillette Stadium.
If Monteal wins in regulation, they will retake first place.
If Montreal wins in overtime or shootout they will retake first and the Bruins will be one point behind the Panthers.
If the Bruins win in regulation, they will tie the Panthers, with Montreal third.
If the Bruins win in overtime or a shootout, all three teams will be tied with 46 points. In that case the Panthers would be ranked third behind Montreal and Boston who have more regulation wins.
All Star voting concludes at midnight Friday, and despite pleas not to vote for him, Jagr still has a significant lead over the runner-up in the Atlantic Division voting and will likely be named captain as a result of that vote which is being conducted by NHL.com
Here are the updated Atlantic Division Standings.
It should be an exciting few months for the legend Jaromir Jagr both personally and as the Panthers look set to compete for the Atlantic Division for the rest of the season unless major injuries cripple their chances. As has been done for nearly two seasons, the Jagr-O-Meter will be your easy guide to know how close he is to various career NHL marks that may not be matched in their entirety for decades.
Happy New Year to Jagr fans around the world but especially in the Czech Republic who follow their favorite son with zeal.
