SUNRISE–It was great to be home for the holidays for the Florida Panthers this year.
Behind a two-goal effort by their leading scorer Jaromir Jagr and a 38-save performance by backup goal Al Montoya, the Florida Panthers defeated the Minnesota Wild 2-1 Sunday night at the BB&T Center.
The Panthers closed out a six-game homestand undefeated and hit the road with a nine-game winning streak overall. Florida (23-12-4) has a three-point lead over Montreal in the Atlantic Division.
For Jaromir Jagr the game saw him score his team-leading 12th and 13th goals of the season to finish the game with 735 career goals. He is now within six goals of Brett Hull’s fourth all-time careeer total of 741.
Jagr scored 27 seconds in to the game banking a puck off the skate of Minnesota’s goalie as he skated by the crease. Nearly nine minutes into the third period of a tie game, Jagr gathered the puck near center ice then found his chance between the circles. Florida survived a Wild power play and later two minutes of 6 on 5 hockey after Minnesota pulled their goalie which made it difficult to set up a hat trick attempt. The second goal extended Jagr’s career total game winning goal total to 132.
The Wild only scored once, by Jason Zucker . Panthers goalie Montoya raise his record to 6-1-1. Minnesota showed good form in moving up the ice as a cohesive five-man unit and Wild coach Mike Yeo called it one of his team’s better road efforts.

The popular Jagr’s production prompted this thought from a teammate:
“He pushes all of us. He still moves like he’s 30 years old.”
