EDMONTON–The Florida Panthers made it 12 straight in besting the swift skating Edmonton Oilers 2-1 Sunday night enabling the Panthers to maintain a five-point lead over Detroit, who won their game earlier in the evening.
Jaromir jagr scored on a breakaway and Jonathon Huberdeau also scored in the first period. The Edmonton goal was scored by Mark Letustu, the only Oiler to score on Al Montoya, who made 24 saves in raising his record to 7-1-0.
#ChasingHull741 It was Jagr’s 15th goal of the season and the 737th of His career, leaving him four short of tying Brett Hull’s career total of 741. It was Jagr’s fourth goal in four games.
#ChasingGordie1850 The goal also resulted in Jagr’s 1833rd point. He needs 17 points to tie Gordie Howe for 3rd all-time with 1850 points.

The game was a little more chippy than one might expect from a contest between two teams that like to skate. An Oilers goal was negated on review with a successful coach’s challenge by Florida coach Gerard Gallant when replay showed the play was offside. The two teams meet Jan. 18 when the Oilers visit the Panthers at BB&T Center. Tickets for that and all Panthers games are available at panthers.nhl.com.
A few weeks ago six teams in the Atlantic Division were separated by four points. The streaking Panthers now hold a five point lead over second place Detroit.
In the stands the Traveling Jagrs were in attendance, and one member was wearing the Rytiri Kladno jersey sent to the group by the team in the Czech Republic that Jagr played for as a kid and now owns.
Additional coverage of the Traveling Jagrs was included in yesterday’s pre-game edition of JAGRometer.com.
The Panthers have more late-night hockey Monday night as they visit the Vancouver Canucks with a 10 pm puck drop for the Panthers fourth game of their six game road trip.

@68isgr8 is the twitter for The Traveling Jagrs. Clad in different Jagr jerseys and hair styles from 68’s career, they gained league-wide recognition when they caught Jagr’s attention during a pre-game skate of a Dallas Stars game in Canada during the 2012-2013 season. Since then, they convene at games in Western Canada and make a road trip or two every year, playing street hockey with locals, posing for hundreds of pictures, and having a good time with fans while honoring an all-time NHL legend.
