NEW YORK–The New York Rangers were a step or two ahead of the Florida Panthers for most of Monday night’s game and came away with a 4-2 win over the Atlantic Division leaders at Madison Square Garden.
The win boosted the Rangers back into second place with 90 points and hold a two-point edge over Pittsburgh in the Metro Division and one-point better than Florida’s 89 points which could become a factor in later rounds of the playoffs.
The highlights were few for the Panthers in this game. Trocheck scored his 23rd goal of the season and became the third Panther to reach 50 points this season. Jiri Hudler, acquired just before the trade deadline scored his fourth goal as a Panthers since his acquisition from the Calgary Flames.

Former Rangers captain Jaromir Jagr was honored with a scoreboard tribute and a nice ovation from the New York faithful for his recent achievements of 742 goals (third all-time) and 1851 points (also third all-time).
The Atlantic Division standings through Monday, March 21…
The Panthers line of Huberdeau, Barkov and Jagr was held without a point for the second straight game so no upgrades to the Jagr-o-Meter.
The Panthers are idle until they play Thursday night at Boston.
