GAME 5: @NYIslanders 2-@FLAPanthers 1 (2OT) NY Quine GWG; Barkov G, Petrovic, @68Jagr A, Luongo 40 saves

SUNRISE–An regulation NHL net is 6’x4′ but it must have seemed like 6″x 4″ to players on both teams as Thomas Greiss made 47 saves as rookie Alan Quine scored 16:00 into the second overtime to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 over the Florida Panthers that gives them a 3-2 series lead and a chance to advance to the second round when the two teams meet Sunday evening at Barclays Center.

It’s been like tennis with these two teams, with teams alternating victories. A sellout crowd of 20,000+ at BB&T Center saw an intense game. Aleksander Barkov scored the only goal for the Panthers, and also was stopped by Greiss on a penalty shot. The game marked the return of Vincent Trocheck for Florida, who may have lost Nick Bjugstad after the big forward was tripped near boards, striking and cutting his head, then lying on the ice nearly motionless for 10 minutes. He did get stiches and will be further evaluated Saturday.

The season is on the line Sunday. If the Panthers force Game 7 it will be played Tuesday at BB&T Center.  Tickets available through panthers.nhl.com.

Scoring has been tough  but Jagr remains focused on the team goal of winning the cup rather than his streak of goal-less playoff games. This was published by the Sporting News after Wednesday’s Game 4 victory in Brooklyn.

The Miami Herald stated the obvious that Jagr must scored some goals. There were some good points in the column so it is shared here..

Jagr recorded his 123rd playoff assist and 201st career point on the Barkov goals as shown in today’s Jagr-O-Meter.
