Aleksander Barkov capped a two-point night with an overtime goal as The Florida Panthers opened the defense of their Atlantic Division title with a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils Thursday night at BB&T Center.
Highlights and detailed summary of the game are available here from nhl.com:
Barkov assisted on Jonathon Marchessant’s first period goal. The newly-formed line of Barkov (4 shots), Marchessant (2) and Jaromir Jagr (6) combined for 12 shots. Marchessant is filling in on the top line for Jonathon Huberedeau, who is out 3-4 months following surgery on his leg.
Jagr was held without a point and finished +1 for the game. Jagr had a half-dozen shots but was held without a point on opening night. Since returning from the KHL Jagr now has four goals and five assists in six opening night contests. Jagr displayed his usual control of the puck plus a little more speed as he is skating a few pounds lighter this season.

During warmups the Panthers all wore #16 to honor Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who died in a boating accident over the final weekend of the baseball season. Here Jagr wears the tribute jersey.
The Panthers host Detroit Saturday night at BB&T Center and fans attending the game will receive a Jaromir Jagr bobblehead highlighting many of Jagr’s personal records. Tickets for the game can be secured directly through the team at panthers.nhl.com.
