SUNRISE–In their mind, or more appropriately, on a plane, the Florida Panthers are going to Carolina for the first of six games away from BB&T Center following Saturday night’s 2-1 shootout win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Chicago, Detroit, Ottawa, Boston and Philadelphia are the other stops where the Panthers will play in the next 10 days.
Not a lot of scoring highlights in Saturday’s game. Jaromir Jagr staked the Panthers to a 1-0 from the left circle with his third goal of the season, which stood as the only goal of the game until Brandon Saad scored a wicked bubble hockey style backhand goal in the latter stages of the third period to send the game into overtime. It was the only shot that would elude Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo all night as he stopped 36 of 37 shots and maintained composure under severe pressure. The always exciting 3-on-3 overtime was scoreless. Aleksander Barkov sent the home fans to the exits with smiles with his shootout clincher, his second in less than a week.

The Jagr-O-Meter shows that Jagr is now only 9 points from tying Mark Messier as the NHL’s second all time leader. Also of note, Jagr will tie Chris Chelios for fifth all time when he suits up for his 1,651st game, which should happen Sunday in Carolina. By Thursday night he could also pass Mark Reechi with his 1653rd game which would put him in fourth place all time.
Enjoy the games. History is Approaching. The Legend Continues…
