Will #2 all-time scorer in NHL history be crowned before Christmas? Fans of@68Jagr and @FLAPanthers hope so!

MINNEAPOLIS–Endurance, skill, resiliency and the good fortune of outstanding health and luck have Jaromir Jagr and his 1883 career points for the Florida Panthers’ three game road trip starts tonight in Minnesota and includes  visits Thursday to Winnipeg and Friday in Colorado.  Jagr needs four points to tie #2 all-time Mark Messier as the NHL’s second all-time scorer, who retired with 1887 points.

Jagr’s next point is 100th with Florida Panthers.

His production with the Panthers is consistent with his career production. His 755 goals are 40% of his career 1883 points. If his next Panther point is a goal, it will be his 40th goal which would maintain his career average of 40%.

The Jagr-O-Meter was created when Jagr returned from the KHL and resumed play in the NHL, signing with the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2011-12 season. He started that season with  1599 points. While he was on self-imposed exile for three years in Omsk, the number 1599  hung out there like a sore thumb.  Now #68 has increased his total to 1883 with stops in Philly, Dallas, Boston, New Jersey, and now the Florida Panthers, which includes team leading totals with the Devils and Panthers.

With 9 points in his last 12 games Jagr has found a groove in recent weeks as a retooled defense corps and a new coach Tom Rowe try to get the Panthers back into the playoffs for the second straight season. Tonight the Panthers (13-12-4-30) find themselves fifth in the Atlantic Division, trailing Boston and Ottawa who have 34 points.   Between those two teams sit the Tampa Bay Lightning, who also have 30 points but win the regulation overtime wins tie breaker with 12 ROW wins to the Panthers 11. As things look now, the Metropolitan Division will send five teams to three for the Atlantic but that can change. The easiest way in is a first, second or third place finish in the Atlantic.

Panthers sponsor contest to predict point 1888

When will Jaromir Jagr record point 1888 to become second all-time? The Florida Panthers are conducting a contest with the prize of a road game to the selected winner. The prize will only be awareded to a Florida resident, but no harm in playing along anyway.

It’s not easy to project how soon Jagr will get the 5 points. He had a three-point game a few  weeks ago, which could see the historic point scored before the Panthers return home for a Dec. 20 game with the Buffalo Sabres, which is also Star Wars night at the BB&T Center.
