Jagr’s milestone goal came on a power play with 12 seconds remaining in the first period to tie a game in period the Panthers dominated but trailed until Jagr scored.
It was his 10th of the season. Following a thrilling 3-on-3 session dominated by the Florida, the Panthers won the game with Aleksander Barkov’s goal in the shootout, his third straight shootout clincher. Roberto Luongo stopped 30 of 34 shots and gloved two of three Vancouver shootout attempts targeting the upper right corner to close out the victory.

Jagr also assisted on Aaron Ekblad’s eight goal of the season for career power play point 592. His goal earlier in the game also came on the power play and broke a tie with Nicklas Lidstrom for second place. The pass was a no-look pass through the crease and was quickly buried by the second year defenseman.

#ChasingBrettHull741 Passing Dionne pushed Jagr one goal to Brett Hull, who finished his career with 741 goals. The two-point effort also helped Jagr who is #ChasingGordie1850 with the 1825th and 1826th points of his career. Gordie Howe is the NHL’s third all-time leading scorer.
With the win Florida and Ottawas’s loss to Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon the Panthers (18-12-4-40) are now in fourth place and hold the first wild card slot in the Eastern Conference. Win by Boston and Detroit enabled them to hold the second and third positions in the Atlantic division, which has five teams separated by four points.
Florida has won four games in a row and Tuesday night they go for #5 against the last team to beat them, Ottawa at the BB&T Center. Tickets for that and all Panthers home games are available at http://www.floridapanthers.com. The team is South Florida’s best buy in professional sports and has special holiday packages and other options including partial season ticket plans for fans or gift givers!
In Sunday’s preview we included a link to an outstanding article in Canada’s Sportsnet on-line magazine which has been highly-praised. We’re posting it here again in the aftermath scoring his 732nd NHL goal, putting him alone on the fourth rung of the goal scoring ladder.
