SUNRISE–The Florida Panthers played their second straight strong defensive game but dropped a 2-1 decision to San Jose in a shootout Thursday night at BB&T Center.
Jaromir Jagr broke a scoreless tie in the third period but Logan Couture scored for the Sharks. Neither team scored in the overtime. In the shooutout, Nick Bjugstad scored for Florida only to see San Jose’s Joonas Jonkoi and Joe Pavelski score on their shootout attempts to give the victory to the visitors. Al Montoya started his second straight game and stopped 17 of 18 shots in regulation while Martin Jones stopped all but one of Florida’s 20 shots before the shootout.
Highlights of the game from NHL.com can be seen here:
Jagr’s goal was his team-leading 18th of the season and was the 740th of his career, leaving him one goal less than Brett Hull’s third all-time best total of 741. He also notched career point 1843, seven behind Gordie Howe’s 1850 for third all-time. Jagr leads the first-place Panthers with 41 points this season. He also became only the second forward to score a goal after his 44th birthday, which was Monday. The other players was Howe.

Clad in different Jagr jerseys and hair styles from 68’s career, they gained league-wide recognition when they caught Jagr’s attention during a pre-game skate of a Dallas Stars game in Canada during the 2012-2013 season. Since then, they convene at games in Western Canada and make a road trip or two every year, playing street hockey with locals, posing for hundreds of pictures, and having a good time with fans while honoring an all-time NHL legend.
