Czech’s preparations for return of Hockey King @68Jagr include changing venues to accommodate larger crowds AND one-game comeback by Nedved?

The Czech Republic is preparing for the return of the legend, Jaromir Jagr to competition on home ice. Many of the links are from the Czech Republic and will translated with your browser.

Jaromir Jagr will soon be skating for Kladno in the Czech league. Some procedural matters involving documents as well as a medical examination will need to be completed before Jagr can play. Kladno has eight games remaining on their regular season schedule, and some games will be moved to larger venues if logistical issues can be finalized. Here Jagr is shown in a practice session with Kladno before the season where he was set to play until the Calgary Flame of the NHL offered him a contract as their season opened. The Flames put Jagr on waivers Sunday and since he went unclaimed have assigned him to the team he owns. Technically Jagr could be recalled by the Flames later in the season.

While reports from NHL cities treat  Jaromir Jagr leaving the Calgary Flames in past tense and melancholy tones,  the Czech Republic is gearing up for a hockey party unseen since Jagr was the MVP of the 2015 IIHF tournament.

Plans are underway to move as many of Kladno’s eight remaining games to larger venues so more Czech citizens can see their country’s greatest hockey hero perform for the team he played for as a child and now owns as a man.

Aside from the fanfare, there is much at stake for the Knights. Kladno is in third place in the second level of the Czech league. A first or second place finish will put them in contention to return to the top level of the league they once dominated for decades.  Kladno has a rich history in Czech hockey lore. The Knights compiled a 2-1-1 record during the 1977–78 Czech NHL tour and Super Series, recording wins over Chicago and Toronto, a tie with the Rangers and a loss to the defunct Cleveland Barons.

If the dominoes fall in place by the weekend,  Jagr’s former Czech national team and Pittsburgh Penguins teammate Petr Nedved could suit up for the opposition for the game as explained in this link.

A column from the Czech Republic hopes for revival of Kladno and the Czech league with Jagr driving up crowds at all arenas.

A hypothetical hope for Jagr’s return to NHL. Buried in this article from the Czech Republic is the prospect that Jagr could be recalled by the Flames later in the season since words like “assigned” have been used to describe him rejoining Kladno in the Czech league.

Cap Friendly tweeted out the theoretical possibility of a Jagr return to the NHL.

Placing Jagr on regular waivers & loaning him to Europe (as was reported by ) instead to terminating his contract, gives the the option to recall him down the road. That flexibility will only cost CGY $370,968 in salary & 1 spot under the 50 contract limit.

In the Czech hierarchy of hockey, only Dominek Hasek comes close to the degree of adulation given to Jagr. The stylish goalie offered his thoughts on aging and overcoming injuries late in a career. The parallels were eerie. From Denik Sport. Translate if necessary published multiple articles on Jagr throughout Monday

Jagr leaves the Flames on good terms, shares gratitude

Greensburg, PA sportswriter Kevin Gorman offers thoughts on the end of this chapter of Jagr’s NHL career recalling memories from his first 11 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Finally, today, Jagr friends from around the world, is this news from Caglary, where The Traveling Jagrs are contemplating a number of things, including a gofundme to bring a healthy Jagr back to the NHL to finish the quest for Gordie Howe’s all-time regular season games played record of 1767. Like this website, they choose to look at the time in Calgary as another chapter and remain hopeful that another NHL chapter can be written in the future. A laundry list of proposals are outlined in this Calgary Sun article by Flames reporter Eric Francis.

A message for our Czech readers.

In recent years Czech fans, either visiting from Europe or USA-based, have been seen wearing the #68 Czech national team jersey, wearing wigs like the Travelling Jagrs and waving the Czech flag.  Most arenas will allow the flag if you wear it as a cape. Please visit the USA or Canada this year and feel free to write to me for advice on planning your trip. Air BnB is popular for those trying to get the most of their travel budget. Most NHL cities have other interesting things to visit to supplement your vacation to the USA and Canada with enriching experiences.

The two best Jagr facebook pages are:

This is the page Jagr posts on, if he is going to post at all. With 700,000+ followers, he doesn’t monitor the page that closely or answer messages, so don’t be offended.

Another good facebook page is one produced by someone in the Czech Republic. It has more than 100,000 likes. This is not the official page, but it is very good.

The following Flames Bloggers should have some Jagr content this season:

@Zdenek_Janda   Czech reporter who covers the NHL and reports on other news for the people of the Czech Republic, sometimes from the USA.

@Jsmidcro    Jan Smid was a US-based Czech reporter who collaborated on “Jagr”, an autobiography in the late 90’s detailing Jagr’s early life and career in the NHL. Smid now covers international affairs but has remained friends with Jagr through the years. A good follow for his international news. The book is till available on Amazon and ebay, tells the early story of Jagr’s life and career through 1996. Comes with a nice replica autograph inside so don’t be fooled by claims that the book is hand-signed by Jagr unless there’s a second, smaller signature somewhere.

@NHLHistoryGirl This hockey lover shares interesting informational tidbits about hockey and the NHL in general from scholarly research on hockey. She gets an A+ and First Star from us. How does she do it?

@68isgr8  is the twitter for The Traveling Jagrs. Clad in different Jagr jerseys and hair styles from 68’s career, they gained league-wide recognition when they caught Jagr’s attention during a pre-game skate of a Dallas Stars game in Canada during the 2012-2013 season. Since then, they convene at games in Western Canada and make a road trip or two every year, playing street hockey with locals, posing for hundreds of pictures, and having a good time with fans while honoring an all-time NHL legend. This is the official site for the group but is the personal twitter for Dallas Stars Jagr, aka Trevor Freeman
